Abtract:
Data visualization is an essential tool for exploring and communicating findings in medical research, especially in epidemiological surveillance. The COVID19-Tracker online web application systematically produces daily updated data visualization and analysis of the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic in Spain while the COVID19-Global works on a global scale. Both applications collect automatically daily data on COVID-19 diagnosed cases and mortality worldwide. We implemented comparative data visualization between countries for the most common indicators in epidemiological surveillance to follow an epidemic: attack rate, population fatality rate, case fatality rate, and basic reproduction number. These applications may help for a better understanding of the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic.
Bio:
Aurelio Tobias is Associate Professor at the Spanish Council of Scientific Research in Barcelona, and Visiting Association Professor at the Nagasaki University. He has a broad range of research interests with a common theme of applied statistical and epidemiological methods in environmental health studies. In particular, the application of time-series regression models in public health and statistical methods for meta-analysis. His current research interests focus on environmental epidemiology, studying the short-term effects of the air pollution and climate change on human health. He also collaborates at the European Educational Programme in Epidemiology and teach various short-courses in medical statistics and epidemiology.
