On 5 June 2020 we celebrate the #WorldEnvironmentDay to encourage worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment. First held in 1974, it has been a flagship campaign for raising awareness on emerging from environmental issues to planet pollution, human overpopulation, global warming and sustainable consumption.
The United Nations, aware that the protection and improvement of the human environment is a major issue, which affects the well-being of peoples and economic development throughout the world, designated 5 June as #WorldEnvironmentDay. The celebration of this day provides us with an opportunity to broaden the basis for an enlightened opinion and responsible conduct by individuals, enterprises and communities in preserving and enhancing the environment.
Much of the research work at our institute is centred on two of the great environmental challenges of our time, namely the cleanliness and availability of the WATER we drink and the quality of the AIR we breathe, guided by the principle that our scientific understanding of current threats to global ecosystems is best approached from a holistic, systems-based viewpoint.
IDAEA is the CSIC’s reference center on environmental (Water & Air) research, and on the occasion of this date, we would like to share a video about our multidisciplinary research in environmental science.
Despite all the benefits that our nature give us, we still mistreat it. That is why we need to work on that. Today and everyday #WorldEnvironmentDay.
