Today, the Institut Francesc Macià and the Casal de Gent Gran Gavarra Cornellà de Llobegrat visited IDAEA and IQAC laboratories within the framework of CRENCO project.
CRENCO is a non-profit project that aims to create an intergenerational educational model to be implemented in schools.
The visit was the last stage of the project, which had consisted of making nanotechnology closer and more appealing to them. The first part of the project was carried out online by Jordi Díaz and Enrique Conches responsible for the Nano Project, and in this last stage, the participants (23 students and 5 elders) visited two IQAC groups to know some of the applications of nanotechnology in our lives:
- In the Nanobiotechnology for Diagnostics group, Pablo Salvador, Julián Guercetti, Juan Raya, Carla Ferrero and Nerea Castro explained the use of nanoparticles for the development of diagnostic devices of different diseases, such as COVID19.
- In the Byophisics of Lipds and Interfaces group, Olga López and Mercedes Cócera showed them the challenges they face when designing new skin cosmetics.

After that, the group accompanied the researcher Maria López Olivé, from the Environmental Geochemistry and Atmospheric Research (EGAR) group (IDAEA), to the air quality monitoring station, where she has explained how they investigate air pollution. Specifically, she focused on particulate matter and how they collect the samples for detailed analysis. Finally, the group have visited the animal facility service (CID-CSIC), getting to know the zebra fish for experimentation and toxicological studies.

At the end of the visit, the participants observed the BCN Art-Ambient mural recently painted in our building, that brings together science, art and gender.
