IDAEA researchers Sílvia Díaz (ENFOCHEM group), Jesús Carrera and Cristina Valhondo (Groundwater and Hydrogeochemistry group), and Benjamí Piña (Environmental Toxicology) participated in the “Groundwater, key to the sustainable development goals” conference, celebrated in Paris on 18, 19 and 20 May.
This conference is organized by UNESCO, together with national and international organizations to promote the knowledge exchange between the different actors in the fields of water and sustainable development. This year, it has brought together specialists in groundwater resources and, more broadly, in water (national and local scientists, managers and decision-makers, etc.) as well as numerous end-users and representatives of civil society (water supply and sanitation companies, industries, farmers, NGOs, etc.).
Sílvia Díaz gave an oral presentation on groundwater and public health and their impacts and benefits for Sustainable Development Goal 6: clean water and sanitation.
ROSSEAU, MARADENTRO, and RESTORA projects were presented in both oral and poster formats within the session “Active aquifer management. Aquifer-river links and recharge”, chaired by Sílvia Díaz and Jesús Carrera.
Finally, the Life REMAR project, coordinated by Comaigua with the participation of IDAEA, also presented its first results. This project is a European-funded initiative to recharge the Baix Camp aquifer with treated water at the Cambrils treatment plant, using pioneering and sustainable aquifer recharge management technology.
