The researcher Berta Sala, formerly from the ONHEALTH group, who defended her PhD Thesis in June 2022, has received the Antoni M. Badia i Margarit Award for the best thesis in Catalan in the field of experimental sciences and health sciences. The act was held yesterday, March 6, 2023, in the Aula Magna at the Edifici Històric of the University of Barcelona (UB).

Her thesis, titled Impacte dels residus plàstics en organismes marins: avaluació de la bioacumulació de plastificants i retardants de flama, supervised by Ethel Eljarrat,  had the objective to evaluate the impact of organophosphate esters, flame retardants, and plasticizers, on the environment and on marine organisms, including sea turtles, jellyfish,  dolphins, and whale foetus.

“The results of this research has allowed us analyse the bioaccumulation and biomagnification of these compound through the marine trophic network”, has declared Dr. Sala in a Twitter video of the University of Barcelona.
