The Groundwater, key to the Sustainable Development Goals international conference will be held on 18-20 May 2022 in Paris.
IDAEA researchers Jesús Carrera, Silvia Diaz-Cruz, and Cristina Valhondo encourage international a
uthors to submit their abstracts for their session on managed aquifer recharge with the aim of having the valuable contribution of experts in the field.

Topic 4. Specificities of governance and good management practices for groundwater resources management, relationships between groundwater and ecosystems, with surface water.

Subtopic 4.j. – Managed aquifer recharge as a tool to protect aquifers and help sustainable groundwater management.

Description. Managed aquifer recharge is a low-cost, low-energy technique to increase groundwater resources, reduce the impacts of groundwater overexploitation, improve recharged aquifers’ water quality, and protect groundwater-dependent ecosystems. Therefore, MAR must be considered as a strategic technique to reach the 2030 United Nations Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its objective of improving water quality and increasing recycling and safe reuse.

This session aims to share experiences and methods to advance the broad adoption of MAR methods. Topics in this session include, but are not limited to:

– Water quality improvement through managed aquifer recharge;
– Managed aquifer recharge as a tool to deal with climate change effects;
– Managed aquifer recharge applications to improve groundwater-dependent ecosystems;
– Managed aquifer recharge systems for water recycling and reuse.
