The goal of a zero pollution circular economy drives the experts of the European project PROMISCES who have joined forces to develop innovative solutions for removing pollutants from the environment. The project, which celebrates its kick-off meeting today, is part of the European Green Deal.

IDAEA researchers Miren López de Alda and Marinel·la Farré, together with the rest of the PROMISCES team, in the kick-off meeting, celebrated in Paris on November 15-16.
PROMISCES aims to understand the origins, routes, and fates of pollutants that spread easily in the environment and are very persistent. Starting on 1 November 2021, the Horizon 2020-funded project will develop technologies to remove these pollutants from soils, sediments, surface- and groundwater, since they can be harmful to human health.
The IDAEA researchers Miren López de Alda and Victor Matamoros, together with their teams, participate in this interdisciplinary consortium made of twenty-seven partners from nine European countries. The consortium, coordinated by the Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières, includes academic institutions, private companies, research centers, and water utilities. Together, they will address the technological challenges as well as develop recommendations for the implementation of relevant EU policy strategies and guidelines.
