Mari Cruz Minguillón participates in the next IDAEA internal seminar explaining one of her research topics on the ventilation mechanisms to prevent SARS-CoV-2 contagion. Language of the event: Spanish

7 October 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Speaker: María Cruz Minguillón
Research topic: Ventilación para reducir el riesgo de contagio de Covid-19
Group: Environmental Geochemistry and Atmospheric Research (EGAR)
Departament: Geosciences
Venue: online
Length: up to 20 minutes

SARS-CoV-2 can be transmitted thourgh aerosols, and it is thought to be actually one of the main routes of transmission. Ventilation is key in reducing the risk of infection of Covid-19 through this route. This seminar aims to shortly explain why this is important, and then it will focus and explain with more detail how the ventilation in a given space can be determined, using CO2 sensors and easy-to-follow science. The measured ventilation rates can be then compared to guidelines and used to assess if additional ventilation is required or if the space can be used. After this, in the next week, a team of 3-4 volunteers will apply the methodology to determine the ventilation rates in some key shared spaces from CID. You can start thinking if you wish to vontunteer for this. It will benefit all of us.
Given the practical objetive of the second part of the seminar, the language will be Spanish.

Seminars are open to anyone. Punctuality is much appreciated since the seminars start at 12.00 p.m. sharp.
